Back from Italy

We had a wonderful time, and the Wuzzle turned out to be a patient and cheerful traveller.

First of several planned photo sets: urban details, mostly in Montisi, north of Pienza:

Slides!

The Wuzzle and I have spent the last two days exploring the possibilities of various types of playground equipment. He's clearly littler than the children the designers of even the toddler slide had in mind, so he needs a fair amount of hands-on supervision.

One interesting thing is that while he loves climbing up to the top of the slide, maybe five feet in the air, he has no interest at all in sliding. His friend Henry, who is a little older, is the same way - it's all about the exertion of the climb and enjoying the summit.

Daddy's nose!

One of the great joys of Wuzzledom, at this point, is chewing Daddy's nose. He doesn't do it very hard - that would be a problem, since he has two teeth opposing two other teeth, and they're all quite sharp.

Longer out than in

I find it hard to keep track of monthly birthdays (bad parent), but here's one to commemorate - the Wuzzle, at 41 weeks, has been longer out than in.

Here's how he looked this morning:

Gadget watch

The Press Bot is a French press coffee-maker that fits in a standard-sized nalgene water bottle, so you can make gourmet coffee from your campsite.

I could see trying one of these for early-morning coffee at work. MEC sells them for $18.50.

It looks like it would be an absolute beast to clean, though – the manufacturer’s site skips over that part. My one adventure with making hot drinks in a Nalgene involved finding out while the bottle quickly becomes too hot to touch, the cap expands faster than the bottle and will come off, spraying a litre of hot tea everywhere. I haven’t tried it since.

BoingBoing has more.

this is your wakeup call

The Greek national basketball team (innocent that I am, I didn't really know there was one) has lots of dedicated fans around here, none of whom felt the need to wait until dawn to celebrate their victory over the U.S. this morning, and took the party to the streets starting at 4:45 am or so, lubricated and/or encouraged by the all-night licences that the local bars had applied for.
